A veneer is a thin porcelain shell that is fixed to an existing tooth's surface. A veneer improves the appearance of a tooth by covering stains, chips, or unevenness. They can also protect a damaged tooth's surface. The veneer is fabricated by hand in a dental lab, it is customized to blend in perfectly with the rest of your teeth. When used in addition to bleaching, a veneer can also help whiten your smile.
How we make your veneers:
Dr. Wise will make your custom veneer over two visits. On the first visit, local freezing will applied on the tooth requiring attention. After you are frozen, we will gently remove a thin layer of enamel and take an impression of the newly shaped tooth. From this mould your veneer is hand made to fit your tooth, and match the rest of your teeth, perfectly. On your second visit, the veneer will be checked for fit and colour. Once you and Dr. Wise are satisfied, the veneer is securely attached to your tooth with bonding cement.
Just like with your regular teeth, proper maintenance for your veneer includes thorough brushing and flossing, and returning to our office for regular hygiene appointments.
